3 months ago i quit my office job in search of something better.. after travelling the east coast of Australia a few year ago i decided to move to a place i could only describe as a sanctuary of joy , Noosa Heads! the jewel in the crown which is the Sunshine Coast.

after a lot of diligent soul searching i couldn’t find a good enough reason to continue living this mundane pattern that would leave me well of financially, but ultimately unfulfilled. something needed to change, and it wasn’t how much i was getting paid.

After doing the math i realised i could survive happy and healthy on $300 per week which is less than a 9-5 job at minimum wage, so it became evident that i don’t need to work 9-5 or even 12-5. if the pay was good enough i only needed to work 15 hours a week @ $20 per hour.

how do i want to spent all my free time? Surf, travel, adventure, being creative and most of all making new friends.

So, i have my criteria! now its time to do some location scouting. with no ties i’m free to live anywhere in the world.

Crunching the numbers:

  • “cost of living” vs “minimum wage”
  • job opportunities & local economy
  • lifestyle and liveability
  • ect…

here’s a handy link to get the imagination flowing: nomadlist.com

Conclusion: Noosa Heads!

After doing the math i realised i could survive happy and healthy on $300 per week which is less than a 9-5 job at minimum wage, so it became evident that i don’t need to work 9-5 or even 12-5. if the pay was good enough i only needed to work 15 hours a week @ $20 per hour.

after reading up on the local new articles (also a good way to get a feel for the place you’re moving to) it turns out that noosa heads has the highest demand for work in the country per capita specifically in the hospitality sector….Perfect. I had 3 job trials at local pizzerias before i even arrived ( I LOVE PIZZA!!!)

So for now Noosa is my home. but it will serve as a good base to start my journey and build some savings for the next step of my journey.

this is the start of my journey to find a better life. and so far it reads like this:

  • wake up..whenever
  • Surf all day
  • make/eat pizza all night
  • arrive fashionably late to the party.
  • ….
  • wake up ..whenever
